As we step into a fresh new year, I’m reminded of the words I shared at our 108th Annual Dinner: “The TTC has been a beacon of tradition and interaction, uniting diverse sectors of the industry.” It’s this tradition and interaction that form the heart of our club, and as your President for 2024, I’m honoured to continue nurturing this legacy that began in 1913. Our history is rich, and our community is vibrant. As we stand on the cusp of another exciting year for the Toronto Transportation Club (TTC), we’re filled with a sense of optimism and a steadfast commitment to our members and the broader transportation industry.
Reflecting on Our Milestones
2023 was a year of remarkable achievements. We navigated the challenges with resilience, marked by our record-setting Annual Gala Dinner. With close to 1400 attendees, including industry leaders and past presidents, we celebrated not just our successes but the spirit of collaboration and innovation that defines us. The Debaters brought laughter and lightness, reminding us that joy is an essential journey companion. Congratulations to the four student Scholarship Winners who are each receiving $2,000 per year in funding over the course of their post—secondary programs. Over the years we’ve supported the journeys of many aspiring engineers, doctors, nurses, data scientists, tradespeople, and business leaders.
Our leadership team saw refreshing additions with several new Directors like James Green, Katie Lee, Angelique Magi, and Rosetta Iacono bringing fresh perspectives. We also welcomed Stacey Large as our 1st Vice-President and Peter Stefanovich as our 2nd Vice-President, both embodying the forward-looking leadership that will guide us into the future.
Thank you to our out-going Board members: Francis Lalonde and Vanessa Michetti, your commitment and enthusiasm for the club and our events will be missed.
I would like to thank out-going Immediate Past President, John Foss, for his three terms as President and continued dedication to supporting the management of our Scholarship Trust.
Liam O’Briain, congratulations on an amazing year as President and thank you for your dedication to the club and your support in my growth on the Executive.
As your President for 2024, I am honoured and eager to contribute to our club’s legacy. My journey since joining in 2016 is a testament to the transformative power of the connections we make here. The interactions and camaraderie developed within the TTC have been instrumental in my personal and professional journey.
Looking Ahead: A Calendar Filled with Opportunities
And let’s not forget the casual pop-up events throughout the year that keep our community buzzing.
As we face economic uncertainties and industry challenges, our strength lies in unity and collaboration. With over 1400 members and 300 companies, the TTC is more than a club; it’s a powerhouse of shared knowledge and collective action.
Our journey wouldn’t be the same without the unwavering support of Denise Cardy, our Executive Director, and every director, volunteer, and member who has contributed their time, ideas, and passion. Your involvement is the keystone of our community.
We extend our deepest appreciation to all the sponsors who commit their resources to our club. Your support is fundamental in making our events possible and ensuring the ongoing success and vibrancy of the TTC.
Join us on this journey.
We’re more than just a club; we’re a community dedicated to advancing the transportation industry. As we embrace 2024, let’s continue to build connections, support each other, and drive forward with optimism and determination. Here’s to a year of growth, learning, and shared success!
